This hymn for the feast of St Joseph was inserted in the Roman Breviary in 1671, shortly after the elevation of the feast to Double of the Second Class by Pope Clement X (6 December 1670). The polyphonic setting is by Francesco Cavalli, then maestro di cappella at St Mark’s, or another composer of the Ducal Chapel.
