Choirbook 7

SHELF MARK Basilica di San Marco, Libri musicali 7
SHORT TITLE Antonio Biffi: Missa brevis

DESCRIPTION

IDENTIFIER DOI: 10.14277/unive/vmo/soundstmark/2017/choirbook7
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION 18 sheets:
1 front flyleaf
17 sheets with music
In-plano. Maximum sheet size (mm): 754 (height) x 496 (width)

Folios unnumbered

Before restoration (2015), the manuscript had 19 sheets: what is now the front pastedown, glued to the cover, was formerly the first of 2 free flyleaves. During restoration, the second front flyleaf, 2/3 incomplete (in its lower section), was reconstructed. The margins of the other sheets, characterized by evident lacunae and signs of wear and tear, were also reintegrated.
BINDING The choirbook is cord bound between two unadorned paperboard covers; the spine is uncovered. Before restoration (2015), the binding thread was broken and incomplete: eight of the twelve raised bands were broken at the front joint. During restoration, spine and raised bands were replaced.
MATERIAL Paper: 2 types

Type 1 (front pastedown, and probably the front flyleaf, largely reconstructed):
Chain line width (mm): 33
Watermark 1a (centre of half-sheet): Trefoil with letters ‘b’ ‘V’
Watermark 1b (centre of half-sheet): Bird

Type 2 (sheets 2–18):
Chain line width (mm): 34
Watermark 2 (centre of half-sheet): Trefoil with letters ‘S’ ‘S’
DATING 1715
COPYIST(S) Anonymous 4
INVENTORY Marchio Angeli (1720) no. 11
NOTES A label with the number ‘10’ is visible on the front pastedown (or, prior to restoration, the verso of the first flyleaf); this presumably stems from an earlier numbering of the choirbooks.

Kyrie eleison.

[Gloria in excelsis Deo]
Et in terra pax hominibus bonae voluntatis
Laudamus te
Benedicimus te
Adoramus te
Glorificamus te
Gratias agimus tibi propter magnam gloriam tuam
Domine Deus Rex caelestis
Domine Pater omnipotens
Domine Fili unigenite Iesu Christe
Domine Deus Agnus Dei filius Patris
Qui tollis peccata mundi, miserere nobis
Qui tollis peccata mundi, suscipe deprecationem nostram
Qui sedes ad dexteram Patris, miserere nobis
Quoniam tu solus sanctus, tu solus Dominus
Tu solus altissimus Iesu Christe.
Cum Santo Spiritu in gloria Dei Patris.
Amen.

[Credo in unum Deum]
Patrem omnipotentem
Confiteor unum baptisma in remissionem peccatorum
Et expecto resurrectionem mortuorum
Et vitam venturi saeculi.
Amen.

Sanctus, sanctus, sanctus
Dominus Deus Sabaoth.
Pleni sunt caeli et terra gloria tua
Hosanna in excelsis.
Benedictus qui venit in nomine Domini.
Hosanna in excelsis.

Agnus Dei qui tollis peccata mundi, miserere nobis.
